Mominoki Shinrin Koen (park)

The Hiroshima prefectural nature park, Mominoki Shinrin Koen (fir tree
forest park), was opened to the public in 1984 in former Yoshiwa Village(present Hatsukaichi City), close to the border between Hiroshima and Yamaguchi Prefectures.
This mountain park is 900-1,100 meters above sea level. The 400-square-meter
park bristles with animals and plants in all seasons, including groups of fir
trees, a symbol of Mominoki Shinrin Koen, dotted all over the park.
In spring, cherry and azalea blossoms bloom. Cool winds run through a forest
of green plants in summer, and in autumn the tree leaves change color from
greens to reds and yellows. In winter when snow covers the park, wild rabbits
leave their footprints in the snow.
Within Mominoki Shinrin Koen, there is a lodging place called Mominoki
House, a campsite area, a gymnasium, tennis courts, a sports course, cycling
course, sports facilities such as those for skiing, Chibikko Hiroba (a place for
children) and an open-air theater. Many events such as a marathon race joined
by families, hiking and skiing take place in the park.
Mominoki Shinrin Koen is easy to reach and is only a ten-minute drive from
the Yoshiwa exit of the Chugoku Expressway. The park is always lively
throughout the year, with families and groups of visitors enjoying camping,
forest bathing and skiing.
